How to install windows in metal building?

Some steel structure buildings will add windows for more daylights and better air ventilation Some of our clients feel a little bit confused about how to install windows in metal builds when they are looking at the drawing. So today, we’ll share some related methods and requirements about how to install windows in a steel structure building.

Window Design

1. Window opening inspection: Before entering the site, the construction team should release control lines at the window openings, and control lines are required to be marked with red pencils at the obvious positions of the openings. At the same time, the parts that affect the installation of the window frames should be clearly marked.

2.The window drawing should be reviewed in conjunction with the construction blueprint and the actual construction situation on the spot, including checking whether the height of the hardware handle of the window is appropriate and make the second deepening. After the detailed bulk production drawing, processing drawings and node diagrams are approved, then the installation can be started. The performance of windows should meet the design requirements.

Relative Tech Requirements

A. Processing requirements for aluminum alloy windows

1.The contact edges of glass and frame are all made of EPDM strips.

2.The frame shall have reasonable drainage holes and equal pressure holes, and shall have corresponding process hole covers.

3.The corners of the windows should be produced by adding the corner glue firstly and then produced with corner machine.

4.The corner code will be used at the corner of the window frame.

5.Relevant specifications for window profiles, thin steel plates, hardware parts, sealing materials, glass, and other materials.

B. Technical Requirements for Materials

1.Type: broken bridge aluminum alloy.

2.Surface treatment: powder coating outside, electrophoresis inside.

3.Corner splicing: aluminum alloy and frame material are spliced at a 45-degree angle.

4.Thickness: main wall material’s thickness of heat-insulating outer windows ≥4mm.

5.Technical requirements for hardware: the surface color and feel of the handle are same as the color of the corresponding frame material’s color. The actuator is fixed by a two-point lock. The four-linkage will be adopted for hanging window hardware and the opening angle is 90 degree when the height of the window sash is bigger than 1200mm and the length of the actuator is bigger than 1100mm.

C. Installation Requirements for Window Frame

1.During the installation, all exposed parts of the window frames must be pasted with protective film and take adequate protection measures. If the protective film is damaged, the peritoneum should be renewed in time. Before the completion, the contractor should be responsible for supervision and protection.

2.The outer window frame is flush with the structural wall, and the connecting pull tab must be connected and fixed with the window’s opening side. It is strictly prohibited to protrude from the inner wall, and ensure that the horizontal and vertical directions of the windows on the facade are neat and consistent.

3.The thickness of the window frame connecting piece is 1.5mm, the width is 20mm, and made of two-way fixed galvanized material. At the side window on the balcony, the outside of the window frame should be flush with the wall beneath the window and the outside of the upper connecting beam. The connecting pull tab must be connected to the side wall of the opening. The pull tab spacing is ≤500mm.

4.Before spraying styrofoam into the gap between the window frame and the wall, it is necessary to clean up the floating dust around the window frame, and water the opening of the window. The foaming agent beyond the frame should be pressed into the frame, and shouldn’t be cut.

5.Installation requirements for window sash and hardware: All parts must be settled firmly, and the switch components should be flexible, tightly closed, and free from inversion or springback. The hardware accessories should be installed firmly, in a correct position and flexible in use.
